MEMBER NEWS

The lazy days of summer may be a reality for some, but the opposite is true at AGCVA. There is tremendous work taking place on your behalf throughout the year, and July has been no exception. Workforce development remains a nearly universal top concern among AGCVA members. With an already strong need for qualified workers, this tight labor market has heightened the urgency in Virginia and around the nation. AGCVA understands this and has a dedicated focus to finding solutions to help you build and strengthen your talent pipeline.

Please join us in celebrating the membership anniversaries of these longtime AGCVA members!

Each month, we recognize those celebrating 50 or more years, 40 years, 25 years, 10 years, and 5 years of membership.

We applaud each of you for your commitment to AGCVA.

By virtue of your membership, you have made the AGCVA community stronger and shown tremendous leadership and dedication to the industry. We are proud to serve each of you and we thank you for your membership in AGCVA.

AGCVA members have been up to a lot in the last month!

We are thrilled to recognize these accomplishments and recognitions, and we encourage you to connect with your fellow members and extend your congratulations!

Construction employment increased in 45 states in June from a year earlier, while 33 states added construction jobs from May to June, according to a new analysis of federal employment data released by the Associated General Contractors of America. Association officials said the job gains were welcome, but that widespread construction labor shortages mean many firms would likely have hired even more workers if they could find qualified candidates.

The remainder of 2023 is expected to be volatile as Fed rate hikes continue to slow the economy while combatting inflation. Increased volatility is anticipated in the capital markets which will translate into volatility in real estate prices. Unemployment is expected to rise, but be prepared to see higher unemployment disproportionately impacting the lowest wage earners who are already showing signs of weakness through higher credit delinquencies and reduced purchasing power.

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

Today’s workforce is more complex than ever. For the first time in history, the workforce consists of employees from four very different age groups: Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials and Generation Z. With these groups, it’s possible to have a more than 50-year age gap between employees. The construction industry – like many other industries – is no stranger to this multigenerational workforce.

The vast majority (87%) of senior business leaders say digitization is a priority at their organization. However, within the environment, health and safety (EHS) industry, many professionals still spend most of their time digging through spreadsheets, binders and emails crowded with outdated safety data sheets (SDSs).
