The number of lawsuits claiming violations of the ADA on property management websites are on the rise. The Federal Government has declined to issue guidance regarding whether or not the ADA applies to websites so the courts are left to interpret the law. Evictions in the news greatly affected the 2019 General Assembly Session. The unprecedented amount of media attention on our industry, much of it inaccurate, has put immense pressure on the apartment industry to "react" in some way. VAMA worked diligently over the summer with a group of stakeholders convened by the Housing Commission to develop a package of 6 bills to present to the Legislature. All of the bills have passed unanimously in their house of origin and will now cross over to the other legislative house for consideration.
