There is a "new" scam in the marketplace.  Companies sell something called a CPN that mimics an SSN but leads to a fake credit report.  Make sure you know about this new fraud and protect your screening.

The number of lawsuits claiming violations of the ADA on property management websites are on the rise.  The Federal Government has declined to issue guidance regarding whether or not the ADA applies to websites so the courts are left to interpret the law.  Plaintiffs want every single website to be compatible with software that provides access to persons with disabilities.  Does your website comply?

The attached memo from NAA outlines the situation in detail.

Evictions in the news greatly affected the 2019 General Assembly Session.  The unprecedented amount of media attention on our industry, much of it inaccurate, has put immense pressure on the apartment industry to "react" in some way.  VAMA worked diligently over the summer with a group of stakeholders convened by the Housing Commission to develop a package of 6 bills to present to the Legislature.  All of the bills have passed unanimously in their house of origin and will now cross over to the other legislative house for consideration. Attached are all of the items reviewed by VAMA's Government Affairs team at Lobby Day.
