On October 4, HUD announced a proposal that would require multifamily property owners of certain HUD financed properties and Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) to submit information on energy and water consumption that would be used for benchmarking their portfolio of properties.
  
Blacksburg starting talks to regulate Airbnb activities - this article is indicative of many efforts around the state to regulate room and home rentals of a short-term nature. The state General Assembly referred last year's legislation, which focused on a lodging tax structure, to a work group. VAMA will monitor the legislation proposed by the work group during the upcoming 2016/2017 Session.
  
The plan is to designate much of the southern part of the city as a rental inspection district, which means city inspectors would, under state law, be able to inspect the interior of rented property. VAMA will put together a meeting, if possible, with city officials to propose an exemption for professionally managed properties.
