The Compostables Field Testing Program (CFTP) is officially underway. The collaborative effort between the Composting Council Research & Education Foundation (CCREF) and BSIbio Packaging is testing certified compostable products and their biodegradability under real-world conditions at compost facilities across North America. The disintegration results will be recorded into an anonymous, open-source database for eventual industry-wide use.

Upon its release, the database will be a helpful tool for all composters looking to improve their facility’s best practices when composting certified compostable products. It will also provide a platform for future collaborative research.

It is crucial to ensure specific data will not be linked to a participating facility, and to accomplish that, there must be a large testing group. To reach that goal, CCREF urges facilities to participate in the program. Participants will receive a free compostables testing kit and our detailed testing protocol. All facilities need to have to participate is an enthusiasm to join the testing process and the ability to record data via our online database.

If you want more information or are interested in participating, contact Connor Ulvestad with BSIbio at 604-630-5115 or submit an inquiry online.
