• This week American Logistics Aid Network is participating in the “Shaken Fury” National Level Exercise which simulates a 7.7 magnitude earthquake along the Cottonwood Grove Fault, the southwest segment of the New Madrid Seismic Zone, near Memphis, Tennessee. The scenario affects the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, and Tennessee.

On May 30, President Trump declared a National Emergency at the U.S.-Mexican border, and announced that tariffs would be imposed on all goods imported from Mexico, effective June 10.  The emergency declaration and imposition of tariffs are undertaken in response to the pressures of a humanitarian crisis caused by a high volume of illegal border crossings along the southern U.S. border.

On June 3, the Trump Administration announced an intent to nominate Carl Bentzel to serve as commissioner on the Federal Maritime Commission for the remainder of a term expiring on June 30, and for an additional five-year term expiring on June 30, 2024. Bentzel previously served as senior counsel on the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, as well as on the House Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries. Subsequent to his time on Capitol Hill, Bentzel worked as a consultant on energy and transportation policy and projects.

Are we really on the brink of a freight recession? I've seen plenty of gloom-and-doom forecasts and analyses from some very smart people, but I'm not buying it.

The topic of automatic trucks appears at times like a gee-whizz fantasy. It could happen someday, but too far out for today's industry to worry about.
