Landstar said it reached a milestone, announcing that 10,000 trucks have been leased to the company by owner-operators.

"In this current market of heightened competition for the best owner-operators in the business, it is quite an achievement for Landstar to hit the 10,000 trucks mark," said Rocco Davanzo, Landstar's executive vice president of capacity development.

Following the recent article about the California Air Resources Board (CARB) fining two 3PLs, Marten Logistics for $100,000 and Roadrunner Transportation Systems for $52,250, for violating a record keeping violation associated with CARB’s Truck and Bus Rules, TIA staff spoke with CARB staff about a statement made by a CARB staffer regarding CA-based brokers.

America has a massive shortage of truck drivers. Joyce Brenny, head of Brenny Transportation in Minnesota, increased driver pay 15 percent this year to try to attract more drivers. Many of her drivers now earn $80,000, she says, yet she still can't find enough people for the job.

Van rates were unchanged at $2.15 per mile for the third consecutive week, as a national average, while reefers got a two-cent increase to an average of $2.51, for temperature-controlled freight movements.
