TIA announced last week the appointment of three new vice presidents: Matt Mantione, CAE, to Vice President of Membership, Chris Burroughs to Vice President of Government Affairs and Will Sehestedt to Vice President of Government Affairs. The Association, with more than 1,700 members, is the leading organization devoted to the North American 3PL industry.

“We are thrilled that Matt is coming onboard,” said TIA President and CEO Robert Voltmann. “He brings deep experience and fresh ideas to our staff. Chris and Will have already been extremely effective champions for TIA members, and will continue their advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill to ensure TIA has a voice in the regulatory debates.”

Mantione, who will lead the efforts in member growth, joins TIA from Design-Build Institute of America, where he served as Director, Membership and Region Development. Prior to that role, he also served the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers as Senior Director and spent more than a decade as Director of Global Membership & Regional Vice President of Relations for ASIS International, a 40,000-member organization for security professionals. At TIA, his position will be responsible for supporting and advancing membership needs.

Mantione is a board-Certified Association Executive (CAE) with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) with substantial experience in association management and is an alumnus of Radford University in Radford, VA. “I’ve known TIA for many years and have an excellent feel for the great work they do for their members,” he said. “I’m grateful and excited to join TIA and I’m looking forward to making value-added contributions in support of TIA’s mission.”

Chris Burroughs, TIA’s former Senior Director of Government Affairs, brings more than 11 years of Congressional affairs experience. He serves as the staff liaison for the Highway Logistics Conference, the Intermodal Logistics Conference, and several other policy committees within TIA. Additionally, Burroughs serves on the Board of Directors for the Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) as the 3PL industry representative and has a BS degree in Political Science from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV.

During his time on Capitol Hill, Chris gained invaluable knowledge of the legislative process. He began his career working on the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee in 2006 and then later the House Natural Resources Committee.

In 2009, Chris joined the Twenty-First Century Group, a bipartisan government affairs firm, as their Director of Government Affairs. In this position, Chris advocated on behalf of multiple clients involved in the transportation, telecommunications, health care, tax and defense arenas. Additionally, he represented TIA on their issues of interest on Capitol Hill.

Will Sehestedt, former Director of Government Affairs, serves as a staff liaison to policy committees that focus on technology, operations, international logistics, and airfreight. He represents TIA on the Advisory Body for Safety and Security (ABSS) and Multimodal Transport Institute of FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations and sits on the Labor Committee at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Before joining TIA in 2014, Sehestedt served for nine years on the staff of U.S. Senator Max Baucus of Montana. There, he focused on budget and appropriations, law enforcement, and small business issues. He has a B.A. from Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
