By Chris Burroughs, Vice President of Government Affairs

In this week’s Ahead of the Curve, I will focus on one value-added service you can provide to your customers that might fly under the radar: an understanding of the current legislative and regulatory environment.

Don’t worry. We don’t expect you to read the Federal Register every day. That’s our job and we’re here to help you. As the staff liaison for the TIA Shipper Committee and Council, I attend several Shipper trade shows throughout the year, and the need and desire for this information is a consistent theme among shipper professionals. These professionals look to their 3PLs as an information resource on these issues, which only increases your value and potential future business.

Here at TIA we regularly update our members on the latest legislative and regulatory information through articles in the Logistics Weekly, government affairs-specific webinars, and through our policy conferences and committees. Our conferences and committees, which cover all four of the major modes of transportation within the 3PL marketplace, are a great place to not only stay ahead of the curve on ground-breaking information, but also take a leadership role to advocate and develop policy for your association.

Please consider joining a policy conference or committee today by sending an email to advocacy@tianet.org. A TIA staff member will walk you through a comprehensive presentation on all the different options available to you to get involved with your association.

Our association and industry are only strong if we unite together to advocate for the success and betterment of this invaluable and growing industry.
