The 2018 mid-term elections are behind us and Republicans made gains in the Senate, while the Democrats took control of the U.S. House of Representatives. In terms of TIA’s top legislative issue and priority (the National Hiring Standard), the situation remains the same and our members remain targets of frivolous lawsuits based on flawed and confusing data.

3PLs, freight forwarders and shippers remain targets of negligent selection lawsuits while safety advances made by the Hiring Standard are ignored. TIA will continue to fight to advance this initiative to President Trump’s desk in 2019, but we need your help through support of your political action committee – TIAPAC.

TIA’s efforts on Capitol Hill are not possible without our Political Action Committee. The TIAPAC enables TIA staff and our members to formulate key relationships with Members of Congress and their staff. It is comparable to taking that extra step with a potential shipper or a long-time customer. It takes a lot of time, energy and capital to win that business, or build that relationship and the TIAPAC is no different, but we need member buy-in and support.

The battle is far from over.

The National Hiring Standard will remain a top issue for the Association and we will have another bite of the apple when Congress begins work on reauthorizing the FAST Act (Highway Bill) in the 116th Congress. It doesn’t matter which party controls the House and Senate, TIA remains steadfast in support of improving our nation’s highways and roads and removing the confusion that currently exists in selecting a motor carrier.

Please join us in support of the Hiring Standard, your industry, and your business. To donate text TIAPAC to 243725.
