The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) anticipates that Conditions of Participation for the new Rural Emergency Hospitals (REHs) designation will be finalized this autumn. CMS says this new provider type, effective January 1, 2023, will promote equity in health care for those living in rural communities by facilitating access to needed services. The REH designation was established by the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 to address the growing concern over closures of rural hospitals. The final rules will include several life safety and other physical environment requirements. For more information, please visit the CMS website by following the link below.
TAHFM’s ASHE Advocacy Liaison, Steve Lowe, works with the ASHE Advocacy Team to monitor and unify the many overlapping codes and standards regulating the health care physical environment. Revamping codes and reducing code conflicts allows health care facilities to optimize their physical environment and focus more of their valuable resources on patient care. The ASHE Advocacy website offers many tools and resources to help keep your facilities in compliance. If you have any questions about advocacy or compliance, contact Steve at info@tahfm.org.
