For the last year, a focus of Texas SHRM has been to heighten the awareness and recognition of quality Human Resources to the general business community, and serve as the voice of HR in the State. Our Legislative Action committee has been very active in following, educating and taking positions on Texas legislation that affects an employer’s workforce. Our Marketing committee has stepped up activity and is seeing a significant increase in social media responses and views. We are seeing more visits to our Texas SHRM website and our Chapter membership has been increasing over the past quarter year.
Come out to network with more than 100 local HR Professionals Tuesday, June 7, from 5-8 p.m.

Members of Tri-State SHRM of Texarkana recently participated in a Habitat for Humanity Build. Not only was the experience fun and rewarding, we also learned more about how the program works. Program participants must not only meet income and credit worthiness guidelines, but must also contribute "sweat equity" to their own home by participating in the build. Children in these families are even able to contribute to the total number of hours of sweat equity required by making good grades. An "A" earned by a child can count for up to four hours of the total hours required by the family. We look forward to attending the dedication ceremony once the home is completed.

3. Student chapters are a source of interns for businesses.

At the recent May TXSHRM State Council meeting in El Paso, a CLA roundtable was held with each of the Texas CLA's serving as various table topic masters. The YP Chair, Melissa Carrillo, met with a variety of presidents and representatives from Texas Chapters with the intent of determining what YP needs exist, if any. Interestingly, the results varied from one end of the spectrum to the other! While some chapters had immense needs in their chapters with this demographic, others did not see a need at all!
