I Always Wanted to Ask That Question

For those who graduated and those who are continuing your academic endeavors, have you asked yourself what’s next? Most of us ask this question as we’re about to undergo a life-changing experience like obtaining a job or internship. One of the things we should be aware of as we’re seeking opportunities are the questions we should be asking employers. Remember, as you are being interviewed, you should be interviewing the employer as well. Here is a link for an interesting article on the 6 Questions You Should Ask In Your Interview.

Social Media: Friend or Foe?

What if you decided that someday you wanted to run for political office or hold a position that requires a clearance? Have you thought about your social profile and what type of impact that might have on obtaining your aspired position? Well, if you haven't, this article just might change your mind.

Question of the Month

I am an international student pursuing a degree at XYZ University. Would obtaining a certificate/license help me in my job/internship search?

Answer: It depends. I'd advise you to search for profiles on LinkedIn of professionals in the career path you desire to enter into. Look at their education and certification and see how you measure up. Certification can be extremely beneficial, but only if it's necessary and applicable to the roles you intend on applying for.

On a Final Note

For many, especially if you’re in college or a recent graduate, the task of securing a job without previous experience can seem incredibly daunting. One must remember that at one point, this was true of everyone in the job market. By demonstrating passion and commitment in other areas of your life (sports, volunteerism, etc.), you show recruiters your skills, knowledge and abilities. As long as you have the drive, you will take yourself where you want to go.
