SPFA is currently coordinating with other insulation trade associations (Insulation Industry Association Council) to support the use of insulation for improved building energy efficiency. As part of this outreach effort, the Insulation Industry is sponsoring a series of informational webinars. The first webinar, entitled “Building Energy Efficiency Policy in the Biden Administration” is being offered on Friday, March 5, 2021 at 12:00 PM ET.
The presenter is Kelly Speakes-Backman, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy - U.S. Department of Energy, and Acting Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Energy. In her role, she leads and directs the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, focused on creating and sustaining American leadership in the transition to a global clean energy economy. She will cover the top energy efficiency and renewable energy priorities for DOE, how the agency plans to leverage the private sector to achieve the administration's climate goals, and how the White House Energy Czar will be utilized during the Biden administration.

SPFA is pleased to announce the formation of the new “APPLICATOR MEMBER.” The debut will be during the SPFA Outreach Event in Fort Worth, Texas on February 26-27, 2021.

This is the first time in SPFA history that a membership offering has been made available for individual applicators. Member categories in the past have been directed toward company membership. A bright light has recently been shown on the talents and knowledge of the applicators and the "New SPFA" now sees the value in an all inclusive membership. Any individual shall be eligible for Applicator Membership in the Alliance provided this person is actively involved in the installation of SPF and is not an owner or officer of a SPF contracting company.

The cost for an Applicator Membership is $189 per calendar year. All memberships expire on December 31. Membership will allow valuable direct access to Applicator Member resources; technical guidelines, a united voice in government affairs and codes, discounted attendance fees for the annual Spray Foam Convention and Exhibition and discounts on certification fees for our Professional Certification Program (PCP), and much more.

Membership information and applications will be available on our new website during the first week of March! If you are at the SFWW Kick-off this week, be sure to stop by the SPFA table (or look for Teri England and/or Ken Wells at the event!) and learn more about the benefits of membership in SPFA. If you have any questions, please contact kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org.

SPF Tech
As we reach the midpoint of the winter season, outdoor temperatures have dropped significantly. When temperatures inside the rig get cold, it can affect the control of your chemical temperatures. This happens most frequently at the proportioner manifold area and exposed hoses that are uninsulated and unheated. While a properly functioning heated hose will deliver correct temperatures at your gun, these other areas can allow the chemicals to get cold. When these chemicals get cold, their viscosity increases and flow can be reduced. This can result in poor spray pattern and foam yield. To resolve this, SPFA has developed a new TechTip showing how to better insulate your equipment for cold weather operation.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
