SPFA News and Announcements

As of September 12, 2020, the SPFA is proud to welcome Rick Duncan to the role of Interim Executive Director.  Rick has been an integral part of the SPFA for 12 years now in the role of Technical Director and, with robust past experience leading teams, will be an asset to our organization during this transition.

Kelly Marcavage’s role at SPFA has also changed.  She is now overseeing SPFA Membership and the Convention in addition to the PCP. Prior to joining SPFA, nearly 10 years ago, Kelly worked in the convention and tradeshow industry.

The SPFA will continue to provide value and look forward to working closely with Rick, Kelly and our newly elected Board of Directors, as we work through the challenges associated with COVID-19 together as an industry.

We want to thank and acknowledge all that Kurt and Mickey Riesenberg have accomplished at SPFA and wish them well in their next endeavors.

In light of COVID-19, it is clear that many factors must be taken into account when planning SPFA’s next event. The SPFA Board of Directors has formed a Task Force to explore all options.  Currently Sprayfoam 2021 is scheduled in San Antonio, TX from February 1-4, 2021, but alternative plans will also be evaluated. A decision is expected within the next few weeks.

We all want to be good stewards of industry and of the landscape. When selling and installing a product that contributes to energy efficiency and supports the goals of sustainability, every step counts. Empty drums need to be gathered and disposed of according to specific instructions and in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements. Avoid shortcuts or choices that will reflect poorly on your company or the industry.  Read below is some guidance from the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry and SPFA about the last step—drum disposal.

In June, the SPFA Safety Committee added two new sections to the SPFA Model Written Safety Program.

The first section provides a written Silica Exposure Control Program. This addresses the recent OSHA National Emphasis Program on respirable crystalline silica dust in the workplace, using information from SPFA’s 2018 respirable silica dust webinar (presented by OSHA staff) and the OSHA Publication 3902 . This new section should be of special interest to contractors that offer concrete jacking service, where respirable dust from cutting and drilling is a common hazard.

The second new section offers a written Contagious Disease Control Program. While it addresses many common contagious diseases in the workplace, it includes specific guidance on controlling exposure to COVID-19. This is important for everyone as we get back to work.

The SPFA Model Written Safety Program is offered at no charge to SPFA members and can be downloaded from the SPFA Members Only website. For more information on this document and the activities of the SPFA Safety Committee, contact Rick Duncan, SPFA Technical Director at rickduncan@sprayfoam.org.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
