SPFA News and Announcements

During the past several months, volunteers from the SPFA Building Envelope Committee (BEC) and Roofing Committee (RC) have worked diligently to develop 4-page marketing brochures for SPFA Contractor Members.  These new brochures were first  released at SprayFoam 2020 and copies were included in the attendee bags.  The messaging n the insulation brochure (SPFA-154) developed by the BEC focuses on homeowner and builders, while the roofing brochure (SPFA-130) targets building owners and facility managers.

Both marketing documents are available as color PDFs from the SPFA website, and are provided in two formats.  The first format is designed to be printed single sided on 8.5x11 paper to create a four-page document.   The second format is designed for two-sided printing on glossy 11x17 paper, which can be folded into a four-page brochure. These documents can be downloaded here: http://www.sprayfoam.org/technical/spfa-technical-documents.  Contractors are encouraged to print and distribute these documents during customer sales presentations and trade shows and include them with your company literature in bid packages.

Should you have questions or comments about these new documents, please contact Rick Duncan, SPFA Technical Director at rickduncan@sprayfoam.org or call (703) 222-4269.

Once it was obvious that the coronavirus outbreak had become a major threat in the United States, local and state governments began shutting down businesses they deemed nonessential. But even then, most construction work was considered essential in many areas of the country.

Health & Safety
The debate over facemasks in every company and every home basically comes down to - do we need these, or can we sacrifice some? When your job and livelihood depend upon you having proper respiratory protection, as a professional sprayfoam contractor's does, maintaining a supply of respiratory protection devices is critical. Many of you are still able to work, and that means going to work with your PPE. Do not work without PPE. Any interior work with SPF should be done with fresh-air (SAR) anyway - if you are not currently using a fresh-air system now is the time to start and cut your cord of dependence on cartridge replacement schedules. Frontline medical workers being exposed to COVID-19 also need protection. When the caregivers get sick, there's no care left to give. If you can spare some facemasks or respirators, please find a donation location near you and offer whatever assistance you can.

The construction industry has well established safety protocols that will keep workers safe. Worker safety and jobsite best practice is a priority focus throughout the industry. The trade associations representing the construction trades have extensive training and education programs available that are frequently the product of coordination with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”). Individual builders and companies make worker safety their first focus.

SPFA Courses and Certification

To support SPF Professionals through these trying times, SPFA has been busy recording the PCP Exam Prep Courses so that you can listen to them for FREE while we are under “Stay at Home” orders.  The silver lining to the Covid-19 Crisis is that you now have the time to attend classes, and there is no charge for SPFA Members or companies who have employees enrolled in the PCP.  Those eligible will be sent an email with a promo code by the end of day on April 22.  If you don’t receive the code, be sure to check your SPAM folder.  Contact certdirector@sprayfoam.org if you didn’t receive the code or have questions about this promotion.  Another benefit is that you can earn PCP Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending these classes! If you don’t fall into either one of these categories, you simply need to enroll in the PCP and you’ll have access to ALL THE COURSES!  There will be at least 7 courses when the recording is complete. We’ll post them as they become available so watch for emails from us!
