Industry News and Announcements
President Biden is making a similar promise with a soon-to-be-unveiled $2 trillion plan. Lawmakers however, offer competing priorities for infrastructure funding.

Health & Safety
As we approach the one-year anniversary of the pandemic, nearly every SPF installer has needed to get their annual respirator fit test. OSHA initially relaxed the respirator fit testing requirements on March 17, 2020 to allow widespread use of N95 masks by essential medical personnel during the early stages of the pandemic. On April 8, OSHA expanded the March 14 guidance to include all OSHA workplaces that require filtering facepiece respirators (FFRs). Throughout 2020, most fit testing providers have halted all fit testing due to shortages of fit testing kits and supplies, as well as to prevent spread of COVID when using fit testing devices.
Although OSHA has instructed field offices to exercise temporary enforcement discretion in regard to annual fit testing, employers should continue to follow other requirements of their respiratory protection program such as initial fit testing, maintenance, care and training, and continue with annual medical evaluations and every worker performing daily FFR seal checks. If respirators are replaced, employers should work with the respirator manufacturer to replace the respirator with one of the same size. If new respirator is not same as previous, fit testing should be conducted. Every effort should be made by employers to be sure new employees are medically cleared and fit tested when respirators are initially issued. If you are finding it difficult to get fit testing performed in your area, it may be a good time to get that ‘note from your doctor’ stating that your regional providers are not currently performing fit testing and keep that in your records.

Polyurethane Machinery Corporation (PMC)
SPF Tech
As we reach the midpoint of the winter season, outdoor temperatures have dropped significantly. When temperatures inside the rig get cold, it can affect the control of your chemical temperatures. This happens most frequently at the proportioner manifold area and exposed hoses that are uninsulated and unheated. While a properly functioning heated hose will deliver correct temperatures at your gun, these other areas can allow the chemicals to get cold. When these chemicals get cold, their viscosity increases and flow can be reduced. This can result in poor spray pattern and foam yield. To resolve this, SPFA has developed a new TechTip showing how to better insulate your equipment for cold weather operation.

SPFA Courses and Certification

Make 2021 the year to upgrade your certification. We are seeing more and more specs that require PCP Certified personnel and/or PCP Accredited Company credentials. Companies who employ certified individuals and are accredited will receive special recognition in our soon-to-be-released, online membership directory!

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.
