SPFA News and Announcements

Using content donated by Anchor Insulation of Pawtucket, RI, the SPFA Safety Committee has developed a new ToolboxTalk program. This program, contained in a 129-page downloadable document, provides 52 weekly toolbox talks designed just for spray foam contractors.
Each talk is summarized on a single page and provides a team leader with 15-20 minutes of content on a specific safety topic. It also includes a sign-in sheet for each topic for recordkeeping. The package is organized so that if  Week 1 content is delivered during the first week of January, the remainder of the year will address seasonal safety issues.
The ToolboxTalk program is available to members-only portion of the SPFA website. Should you have questions or comments, please contact Rick Duncan (rickduncan@sprayfoam.org).

For many, the year 2020 was filled with challenges. SPFA took those challenges and used them as an opportunity to learn from the past, look to the future and decide how the SPFA would adapt to meet the changing needs of our members.
Based on the recommendations of the Membership Committee, co-chaired by contractors, Ken Wells (Elite Insulation & Polypro, LLC) and Teri England (SmartChoice Insulation & Roofing), we launched the initiative for the "NEW" SPFA!
We started by surveying stakeholders across the industry.
We asked.
You answered.
We are listening!
What we first heard is that SPFA Members want to wear their membership logo as a 'badge of honor!'  As such, the decision was made that it was time to re-brand and our new logo was born.
The logo will officially be launched in 2021. Before the end of the year, SPFA membership certificates will be sent to all those companies which have renewed for 2021.  In early 2021, all current members will be sent the "SPFA Logo Use Guidelines" and once they are signed and returned, we will send the custom member logo.
Look for those emails!  If you have any question, please contact Kelly Marcavage at kmarcavage@sprayfoam.org.

Industry News and Announcements
On Nov. 30, Gov. Tom Wolf (D-Pa.) vetoed a controversial bill aimed at extending broad protections to nursing homes, hospitals and other Pennsylvania businesses from certain lawsuits regarding alleged COVID-19 exposure, saying the bill created a potential safety risk.

While he has limited political experience, construction-related groups said they see promise in a Buttigieg-run DOT. "It would certainly be good to have a former mayor from a city like South Bend in the post," said Brian Turmail, vice president of public affairs and strategic intiatives for the Associated General Contractors of America.

A new survey from global human resource consulting firm Robert Half shows 38% of employees who responded said they have experienced video call fatigue since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health & Safety
On November 6, OSHA issued a press release, outlining guidance and a one-page summary alerting employers to the most commonly cited standards related to COVID-19 inspections, including Respiratory Protection, Recording and Reporting Occupational Injuries and Illnesses, Personal Protective Equipment, and the General Duty Clause.
In a separate recent press release, OSHA announced that since the start of the pandemic, they have issued 204 citations resulting from inspections for COVID-19 related violations, with total proposed penalties of $2,856,533. The press release also details common COVID-19-related violations.
While construction is consistently classified as an essential industry in all states, it is important that all construction workers follow proper guidelines on the jobsite.

SPFA Job Board
SPFA is doing its part to bring awareness of open positions in the industry to our members, partners, and untapped talent pools. For every one of these positions going unfilled it’s an opportunity missed, an extra staffing challenge drawing attention away from other important priorities, or a customer perhaps needing to wait longer than they should have to.

Current Call to Action
The IRS has recently determined that businesses that received PPP loans and expect them to be forgiven, cannot take their expenses as deductions. More information can be found here.

To address this, legislation has been introduced in both the U.S. House and Senate to overturn the IRS ruling. If you received a PPP loan, you should immediately write your Congressional delegation stressing your support of S.3612 sponsored by Senator Cornyn (R-TX) and H.R. 6821 sponsored by Representative Holding (R-NC) and H.R.6754 sponsored by Representative Fletcher (D-TX).

You can find the contact information for your Congressional delegation by clicking here. If Congress fails to act on this prior to December 31, 2020, the ruling will stand and may significantly impact your tax liabilities, so it is imperative that you write your Congressmen immediately.
