SCAPA is seeking a full-time Technical Director. The Technical Director will report to the Executive Director of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association (SCAPA). This individual will provide technical assistance to the staff and membership of the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association in both the public and private arenas.

During the first general session at the 2019 NAPA Annual Meeting, Executive Producer and Show Host Mike Rowe, best known as "the dirtiest man on TV" from the hit TV series Dirty Jobs, will share the surprising lessons he learned as an apprentice traversing all 50 states and attempting 300 different jobs. He also runs the mikeroweWORKS Foundation, which provides vocational training scholarships. The foundation has granted, or helped facilitate granting, more than $5 million in technical and vocational education for trade schools across the country.

On November 5–7, 2018, the National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Asphalt Institute, and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies with support from the Federal Highway Administration will host the 1st International Conference on Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) in Atlanta, Georgia.

TRB will conduct a webinar on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM ET that will discuss balanced/performance-engineered asphalt mixture design. Agencies have identified the integration of mechanical and performance tests with current volumetric design practice as an encouraging method for the production of longer-lasting asphalt pavements. Part I of this webinar series focuses on examining how agencies are approaching balanced/performance engineered mixture design, how well their efforts are moving forward, and the challenges they are facing on the path to implementation. Part 2 of the series will take place on Monday, November 26, 2018, and will focus on case studies of successful balanced/performance-engineered mixture designs.
