In an effort to ensure we have the highest quality presentations and speakers, we are seeking volunteers to serve on the 2021 SCAPA Winter Conference Planning Committee.
Don't miss this opportunity to present at the South Carolina Asphalt Pavement Association's 2021 Winter Conference. Are you involved in a new or novel project, approach or system you think your contemporaries would find interesting and worthwhile?

Deadline July 31, 2020!
We here at SCAPA want to hear from you! We have all had to make significant changes to the way we approach daily work and the way we do business in a very short amount of time. We are all a little uncertain as to what will happen next or where we go from here. But one thing is for sure: we are here to help you through these challenging times.

SCDOT made a temporary revision to Section 401.4.30 of the Standard Specifications due to COVID-19. This revision institutes a "Contactless" Weigh Ticket Protocol for asphalt paving in order to eliminate the transfer of paper tickets for asphalt between personnel on SCDOT construction projects and the contractors. The protocol was created in conjunction with each SCDOT district and SCAPA and went into effect on April 8, 2020. It will remain in effect until further notice.

This important resource was created in an effort to address and stop the impact of COVID-19 within the transportation industry. SCAPA worked with the SCDOT, ACEC-SC, FHWA and Carolinas AGC to create the plan. The Joint Workforce Safety Plan for COVID-19 was adopted on March 23 and is currently being used on all SCDOT projects.

Rolling resistance is typically considered to be the longitudinal force resisting a vehicle’s tires as they roll across the pavement surface. This concept is limited to steady-state, free-rolling conditions (Aldhufairi and Olatunbosun 2018). The objective of this project is to determine if there is sufficient evidence to move forward with field studies to measure rolling resistance of different asphalt mixtures and pavement types and develop an experimental plan for a project to evaluate the rolling resistance of various types of asphalt pavements.
