On October 16, SCDOT will host a Paver Mounted Thermal Profiler Workshop in Columbia, SC. The workshop will be led by engineers from the Federal Highway Administration and Applied Research Associates, Inc..
 
 
   
On November 5–7, 2018, the National Asphalt Pavement Association, the Asphalt Institute, and the Transportation Research Board of the National Academies with support from the Federal Highway Administration will host the 1st International Conference on Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) in Atlanta, Georgia.
 
 
   
The Asphalt Pavement Alliance will host two upcoming seminars in Kansas City, MO and Minneapolis, MN.

The National Center for Asphalt Technology at Auburn University has released a report that compares the performance and life-cycle cost benefits of stone matrix asphalt (SMA) to those of polymer-modified Superpave dense-graded mixtures used on similar trafficked highways.

The U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a report that analyzes the use of deflection-basin data to determine the in-place structural condition of asphalt concrete (AC) layers. Deflection basins are used to backcalculate the elasticlayer modulus of existing AC layers, which are considered input level 1 for rehabilitation designs.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has released a report that summarizes the findings of the VDOT Asphalt Quality Task Force. This group was developed in 2011 to identify and recommend specific achievable measures to improve the quality of asphalt paving in Virginia.
 
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has released a report that evaluates a laboratory rutting performance of warm mix asphalt (WMA) versus hot mix asphalt (HMA). In many paving projects, WMA has replaced HMA as a means of reducing environmental impacts. This report seeks to develop guidance for using WMA for commercial airport pavements.
