In an effort to ensure we have the highest quality presentations, we are seeking speakers and volunteers to serve on the 2023 SCAPA Winter Conference Planning Committee. Please review the attached article for details about submitting abstracts and volunteer request to Kimberly Lyons.

Our Technical Director, Kimberly Lyons represented SCAPA at the 2022 NAPA Midyear Meeting in sunny Santa Barbara, California. Several committees met during this meeting to discuss important industry issues: Sustainability Committee, Southeast Region Advisory Council, Committee for Engineering Application and Practice (CEAP), Legislative Committee and Committee for Asphalt Research & Technology (CART).

On July 1 our Technical Director held a seminar from the City of Orangeburg’s Water Division on “How to Properly Patch Flexible Pavements”. There were about 32 attendees and lunch was provided by the City of Orangeburg’s Water Division. The seminar went over the steps required to properly patch flexible pavements so that the patch will remain intact for the safety of the traveling public, and it sparked a lot of constructive conversation about properly patching pavements.
The SC Department of Transportation recently approved the 2022-2023 Pavement Improvement Program.  According to SCDOT, the miles contained in this year's program will add over 1133+ miles to the previously approved 5000+ miles of work since the implementation of Act 40 of 2017.

Asphalt Facts
ONE OF THE MOST COST-EFFECTIVE WAYS TO REHABILITATE A WORN-OUT CONCRETE HIGHWAY IS TO RUBBLIZE IT, THEN OVERLAY IT WITH ASPHALT.

In Arkansas, 276 miles of concrete interstates were given new life in a rubblize-and-overlay program. Rubblization makes the base into an interlocked matrix of pieces as the concrete breaks up. The asphalt overlay can even turn a failed concrete pavement into a Perpetual Pavement.
