Paving the Way
SCAPA News and Events

As the SCAPA Summer Conference came to a close, the SCAPA Board of Directors, Staff and Members said farewell to longtime SCAPA Executive Director Ashley Batson. She was with the organzation for 10 years, and in that time she has done a lot for SCAPA and the asphalt industry. She will definitely be missed!

It was wonderful to see so many of our members together again at the 2021 SCAPA Summer Conference in Asheville. The Inn on Biltmore provided a beautiful backdrop for our members to reconnect with colleagues, receive industry updates, network, and even engage in some fun and relaxation!

SCAPA Summer Conferences are a special time for SCAPA Members to gather in a casual, fun environment and connect with each other. Members get to visit with long-time friends and also have the opportunity to build relationships with new members. Without SCAPA Members that continually step up to Sponsor SCAPA events, we wouldn't be able to put on the top-notch events that our members have come to expect. That is why it is so important to recognize them and show our appreciation. We hope you, too, will take the time to reach out to the SCAPA Summer Conference Sponsors and say thank you!

The topic of resilience has begun circulating in many different fields and forums. The transportation community is no different, with the Transportation Research Board (TRB) hosting their second transportation resilience conference in 2019, the 2nd International Conference on Transportation System Resilience to Natural Hazards and Extreme Weather, bringing together researchers and practitioners to discuss this important topic. The asphalt paving community needs to join this discussion and work specifically to understand the benefits and appropriate applications of asphalt pavement in preparation of, or in response to, natural disasters or changing climate conditions.
