The annual conference is a combined effort of the American Council of Engineering Companies of South Carolina (ACEC-SC), the South Carolina section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the South Carolina Society of Professional Engineers (SCSPE). The keynote speaker of the conference was Dr. Tony Ambler of the University of South Carolina. Dr. Ambler serves as the dean for USC's College of Engineering and Computing. At lunch Friday, he presented to the conference attendees about innovation and entrepreneurship in engineering.

SCAPA exhibited in the conference's trade show and spoke to hundreds of engineers about the benefits of asphalt. The trade show also allows engineers to find out more about the association and the educational opportunities that are offered.

The asphalt industry's technical presence was certainly felt in the concurrent breakout sessions as well. SCAPA Technical Director Jayson Jordan spoke twice at the conference: he gave a presentation in both the geotechnical and transportation tracks.

Jordan presented to a room full of geotechnical engineers on PaveXpress, a free web-based design tool. PaveXpress utilizes AASHTO 93 and 98 design for Flexible and Rigid Pavement Design.
Later in the morning, Jordan discussed Thinlays for Pavement Preservation. With agencies approaching their systems with a more proactive, preservation mindset, Jordan showed how Thinlays are the best option to extend the life of SC's pavements.
