King Asphalt, Inc. is located in Liberty, SC. Their scope of work includes asphalt paving, asphalt manufacturing, CMRB, milling, EZ Street Cold Asphalt, Seal Coating and Striping, and Recycled Sales.

In July 1973, using salvaged equipment to pave driveways and small jobs by hand, King Asphalt set forth to become one of the most well-respected asphalt organizations in the upstate of South Carolina. Their loyal customer base was established then, and those same customers depend on King Asphalt today.

King Asphalt has approximately 150 employees. Their asphalt plants, located in Liberty, Simpsonville, and most recently Pacolet, SC, are SCDOT certified and staffed with Level 3 Quality Control technicians. King Asphalt’s paving operations span 8 counties to include Pickens, Anderson, Oconee, Greenville, Spartanburg, Union, Cherokee, and Laurens.

King Asphalt takes great pride in their craft and they guarantee their product, whether a customer obtains services for total reconstruction or simply makes a purchase for their personal paving needs.

King Asphalt thinks of employees as family, and in turn, King Asphalt’s employees have "heart" for the place where they spend hours on end each day. It is not unusual for colleagues to help each other away from work, whether it be a carpentry project, repairing a broken vehicle, ditch digging, people moving, or merely a shoulder to lean on. That makes "the King difference."

King Asphalt has received five SCAPA Quality Pavement Awards for the following projects:

  • 2007 US-276 Caesars Head State Park
  • 2012 US-123 Resurfacing
  • 2013 SC-137 Norris Highway
  • 2014 Barnes Station Road
  • 2015 White Water Falls Rd

King Asphalt also received a 2015 Innovative Project Award from SCAPA for their work on The Doodle Trail. The Doodle Trail is located between Easley and Pickens, SC. This $2.1 million "Rails to Trails" project was not your typical highway/heavy project. It was focused on the pedestrian and biking enthusiast. This venture was sponsored by two smaller municipalities, and from inception, there was extensive interaction between both cities, their chambers of commerce, the citizens who had property adjacent to the trail, and the Design-Build team. Despite 25 rain days in one month, the project was completed on schedule and under budget. The Doodle Trail is highly regarded in several rail-to-trail publications.

Another notable project King Asphalt completed was SC Highway 153. This project was located on the third-busiest stretch of roadway in Anderson County. There were numerous restrictions on this project that required weekday operations at night. Through careful planing and partnering with SCDOT forces, King Asphalt successfully widened 7.2 lane miles, full-depth patched all deteriorated areas (18,563 SY), 2.0" milled (161,511sy) and surfaced 15.4 lane miles (16,789 tons of asphalt) while creating a safe, non-restrictive work zone for both King Asphalt’s employees and the general public. The final product resulted in a beautiful, well-compacted, and superior riding roadway. In fact, of the 110 total sections that were tested for final pavement rideability (smoothness of ride), 21 sections scored 100% and 89 sections scored 105%-107%.
