The staff at SCAPA has to deliver the bittersweet news that our technical director, Dr. Kimberly "Kimmie" Lyons, resigned from her post late last month. Dr. Lyons began her 3.5-year stint at SCAPA in March 2019, coming to South Carolina from a consultant engineering firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Kimmie holds three degrees from Clemson University, including earning a PhD in Civil Engineering in May 2017. While at Clemson, Dr. Lyons was co-author of various research publications, particularly leading the charge on SCDOT's Open Graded Friction Course (OGFC) research.
We are excited for Kimmie and her new opportunity with the State of South Carolina. She started this week in an engineering role at SCDOT's Office of Materials and Research (OMR). Dr. Lyons will continue to be involved in the road construction industry: her new responsibilities will include overseeing the state's full depth reclamation and base stabilization efforts. On behalf of the SCAPA Board of Directors, we want to thank Kimmie for her service to the association, and wish her the best in her new role with SCDOT!
At the time of publication, we do not have Kimmie's new SCDOT email yet to pass along. However, she will retain her cell phone number moving forward!
