SCAPA Presenting at PWX in Charlotte, NC

This past month has been a busy one for SCAPA Executive Director Jayson Jordan. SCAPA was asked to present at two industry conferences: ASCE-SC's Annual Conference in Columbia, SC and PWX in Charlotte, NC.

The SC Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) had their one-day Fall Conference in Columbia. Dozens of civil engineers from across the state participated in the conference, which had four tracks for various civil engineering disciplines. SCAPA was fortunate to make the agenda in the transportation track to discuss Stone Matrix Asphalt, or SMA. While SMA has been on US roadways for several decades now, it is still in somewhat of an early implementation phase for SC.

In addition, SCAPA joined the Asphalt Pavement Alliance (2022) in Charlotte, NC at the American Public Works Association's (APWA) Public Works Expo, more commonly known as PWX. The multi-day event saw thousands of people fill up the Convention Center in uptown Charlotte, NC. APA's newest employee Brittyn Perkins and Mr. Jordan exhibited on behalf of the industry, and joined other SCAPA and NAPA associate members in the Expo Hall. In addition, many of SCAPA's local and municipal partners were in attendance and stopped by the APA booth. On Tuesday, Jordan spoke on PaveXpress to attendees at the Exhibitor Solutions Theater. PaveXpress is a free, web-based pavement design tool that utlizes AASHTO 93/98. The tool provides addtional features that can be advantageous for public works employees to use, such as overlay design and initial costing.
