Good Character Attestation

Regulated professionals serve the public interest, and their professional stature in the community is an important component of maintaining the public trust. CPHR Saskatchewan will be instituting a Good Character Attestation for new applicants and existing members starting May 1, 2024. This is part of CPHR Saskatchewan’s mandate as the regulator to serve and protect the public; to ensure that its members are competent, are held to professional standards, and are suitable to practice human resources.

All new applicants and existing members will be required to answer questions annually on items such as criminal convictions and prior professional regulatory concerns. This is similar to what is required by fellow CPHR provincial associations across Canada, and by other professional regulators in Saskatchewan. In establishing credibility, many professional associations have a reputation test, including a Good Character attestation.

What Does this Mean for Members?

New Applicants Joining CPHR Saskatchewan
With new applicants, the Good Character Attestation will be used to determine whether the applicant is suitable to become a member of CPHR Saskatchewan and pursue/obtain the CPHR designation.

Existing Members of CPHR Saskatchewan
For existing members, the information will be used to assess whether there are matters that could impact the profession or the public, including whether there have been any violations of the Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct.

For existing members, if there are concerns stemming from the questions where potential violations have been identified, those concerns may be referred to an appropriate regulatory committee to determine whether further action needs to be taken.

Answering yes does not result in your membership application or continued membership being denied. It starts a process of review to determine your particular situation.

Official documentation is only collected at the request of the Registrar. If you answered yes to any of the questions, please do not send official document until requested to do so.

What is the Purpose of a Good Character Attestation?

The purpose of a Good Character Attestation is to provide clarity and set a standard for acceptable conduct within the profession. It is also designed to ensure that only reputable practitioners are eligible to be members of CPHR Saskatchewan and become Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (CPHRs).

CPHR Saskatchewan’s Good Character Attestation will consist of nine questions to verify the character of current members and new applicants. For more information including the questions, please review the Good Character Attestation Handbook

The Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct has also been updated to reflect this new requirement.

General Info Session - March 27, 2024
CPHR Saskatchewan will also be holding a General Member Info Session on March 27, 2024 from 12 - 1 p.m. to highlight the GCA as well as other association business. We encourage you to attend. Click here to register.
