The annual RSIF golf tournament is one of the yearly events CRA members always look forward to attending, and this year’s sixth annual CRA/RSIF Golf Tournament was a top-notch, best-ball, hole-in-one kind of day! Everyone gathered for a day of social networking and a bit of golf, and the energy in the air was intoxicating.

There was so much more for the players than just a round of golf — not only did they get to interact with all the vendors on almost all the holes, but there was also wine tasting on one of the holes this year. As the day began to wind down, CPEE Sales treated everyone to an authentic Cuban cigar-rolling experience by Zaira from VB Cigars, and Sullivan-Palatak and Multiquip co-hosted a whiskey tasting of five whiskeys, with information about each provided by Tommy Hwang. Fun fact: the most popular whiskey was Howler Head — a banana whiskey.

Thank You to West Coast Equipment for hosting the GLAO/Inland Pre-Golf Yard Party! Nearly 100 people enjoyed great food and conversation with friends while listening to Drew Delaney give an overview on CARB. Also, a special thank you to Makita for being our beverage sponsor.

The Lasting Effects of Long-haul COVID: According to some organizations, as many as 80% of COVID-19 patients will experience one or more long-term, persistent symptoms. The clinicians at Emory Executive Park post-COVID clinic in Atlanta say one of the most common persistent symptoms of people who have recovered from COVID-19 is shortness of breath, which may suggest diminished lung function, although other causes such as pulmonary embolism, even after acute illness, may be contributing. Dr. Thanushi Wynn has been caring for post-COVID follow-up patients from Emory Johns Creek Hospital and Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital. Wynn notes that some patients may be able to prevent chronic lung damage with timely treatment by an experienced pulmonologist. However, the symptoms some COVID-19 survivors have been reporting extend beyond the pulmonary realm, indicating that viral infection has inflicted injury on other systems of the body. They include chest pain upon exertion, irregular heartbeats (cardiac arrhythmias), and dizziness or a racing heart when someone stands up after lying down (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome). In addition, a number of post-COVID patients are reporting loss of smell or taste, altered sensations in their limbs, chronic pain and/or brain fog (problems with memory, concentration or word-finding).

Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (HJTA) and a recognized expert in California fiscal affairs, recently posted this article: Support is growing for the idea that parents can help their families climb the economic ladder by building generational wealth through property ownership. Surprisingly, this support has even been spotted in the opinion pages of the Los Angeles Times. It’s surprising because the LA Times has previously taken a highly negative view of families being able to pass along intergenerational wealth in the form of real property. In a lengthy 2018 article about the effect of a voter-approved measure that allowed parents to transfer property to their kids without reassessment and a tax increase, LA Times reporter Liam Dillon focused almost exclusively on how the measure had benefited some very wealthy families. In particular, he objected to actors Jeff Bridges and Beau Bridges renting the Malibu home they inherited from their father, actor Lloyd Bridges.
