Employers are responsible for providing workplaces that are safe from excessive heat. Yet every year, thousands of workers become sick from exposure to heat, and some even die. Heat illnesses and deaths are preventable. The risk of heat-related illnesses and deaths increases during warm summer months; humidity increases the risk. Heat stroke is the most serious heat-related illness. It occurs when the body becomes unable to control its temperature: body temperature rises rapidly, the sweating mechanism fails, and the body is unable to cool down. Body temperature may rise to 106°F or higher within 10 to 15 minutes. Heat stroke can cause death or permanent disability if emergency treatment is not provided.

Business News
Registration is now OPEN for the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association (HJTA) special online webinar about reversing the tax increase that was hidden inside Proposition 19. California voters narrowly approved Proposition 19 after a $50 million ad campaign convinced them that it was all about helping wildfire victims, seniors and disabled individuals move to a new home without paying higher property taxes. Hidden in the measure, however, was a massive tax increase on property that is transferred between parents and children. Previously under Proposition 58, passed overwhelmingly in 1986, a home of any value and up to $1 million in assessed value of other property could be transferred between generations without any change to the property tax bill. Prop. 19 repealed Prop. 58, and now transferred property will be reassessed to market value as of the date of transfer with only limited exceptions. Children who cannot afford the new tax bill will be forced to sell. We’re working hard to Reinstate Proposition 58! This important taxpayer webinar will be held online on Wednesday, July 14, starting at 10:00 a.m. Register now, it’s free!
Jon Coupal, President, HJTA
Jon Coupal, President of the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, recently published his opinion on a proposed amendment, California's Senate Constitutional Amendment No. 1 (SCA 1), which deals with the peoples’ right to referendum. He is of the opinion that this bill is purposefully designed to fool the public by reversing the meaning of yes and no.
