Nov. 2 – MTA Distributors kicks off the tournament Thursday evening with a GLAO/Inland Territory meeting. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a yard party featuring several CRA vendors, a Badlands BBQ, and maybe a surprise or two…
Nov. 3 – CRA’s 8th annual Golf Tournament provides vendors and rental centers a fun day of networking while raising funds for the Rental Services Industry Foundation. Competitions, games and vendor displays will be along the course at Eagle Glenn Golf Course for the enjoyment of the golfers. A reception follows with awards and a raffle. The cigar bar is back with a Whiskey & Bourbon tasting!

A pioneer of the concept in the late 1960s and still driving the sector forward, Yanmar Compact Equipment celebrates 55 years of mini-excavator innovation.While the Beatles song ‘Hey Jude’ was helping to launch the pop scene in Japanese culture, there was another social phenomenon going on in 1968 Japan. To try to keep up with the remarkable construction boom happening in the country, leading diesel engine manufacturer Yanmar had the brainwave of putting one of its engines into a scaled-down hydraulic excavator. The YNB300 was the result – a wheeled, self-propelled machine that went on to revolutionise the industry. And just like the Beatles – Yanmar CE’s mini-excavators are still proving a hit 55 years later.

Mi-T-M Corporation announces Dave Thiesse as Vice President of Commercialization. Thiesse will oversee all commercialization activities at Mi-T-M including Sales, Sales Support, Product Development and Marketing. Thiesse will be stepping in for former Vice President Dana Schrack, who recently retired after 33 years with Mi-T-M. Prior to joining Mi-T-M, Thiesse held several leadership positions, including Product and Market Management for O’Sullivan Industries, Vice President of Sales for The HON Company and Director of Sales at Safco Products.

The Center for Jobs and the Economy reports on the highlights from the recently released trade data from the US Census Bureau and US Bureau of Economic Analysis. To view additional data and analysis related to the California economy visit www.centerforjobs.org/ca.
With the West Coast labor situation resolved, the ports can now turn their attention to regaining lost traffic and the associated blue collar and related jobs that rely on this activity. Unfortunately, moving beyond this point also means the ports must now focus on other threats to this core jobs base, including the continued rise in operating costs especially energy and new regulatory threats that would place a cap on allowable port activity in the state.
The August trade results show a weakening in trade activity, reflecting both the challenges to trade in the state along with overall softening in the global trade numbers. In nominal terms, origin exports were down 6.2% from August 2022, destination imports down 10.7%, and overall trade through the state’s ports off 7.8%. Year-to-date, however, total trade through the state’s ports has been somewhat higher than the pre-pandemic years, although lower than the same period in 2022.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has established an effective date of December 31, 2023, for California Code of Regulations, title 13, sections 2196.1, subdivision (f), 2196.8, 2197, and 2197.2, subdivision (b), within the Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance Regulation.
The Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) regulation subjects nearly all nongasoline vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating over 14,000 pounds that operate in California to periodic emissions testing. These testing requirements help ensure that heavy-duty vehicles operating in California remain equipped with properly functioning emissions controls, and when malfunctioning, that these systems get repaired in a timely manner. Through the repair of malfunctioning emissions control systems, the HD I/M regulation will substantially reduce toxic particulate matter and emissions of oxides of nitrogen from the heavy-duty vehicle sector. This will help reduce air pollution and improve public health across the state, especially in communities disproportionally impacted by heavy-duty vehicle activity.
An article on Commercial Carrier Journal described former late night kingpin and longtime car guru Jay Leno's experience driving Tesla's supposedly game-changing Semi truck. In a 40-minute interview and test drive session, Leno quizes Tesla Semi Chief Dan Priestly and Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen on the ins and outs of the Semi, in the process revealing the brand's design philosophy and lots of neat tidbits about the truck's performance and capacity.
Jon Coupal, president of the Howard Javis Taxpayers Association, recently offered this commentary on Prop. 13: Last week, and despite the popularity of Proposition 13, the California Legislature passed two proposed amendments to the California Constitution that rip huge holes in that iconic taxpayer protection overwhelmingly approved by voters in 1978. But here’s the good news. These anti-homeowner bills must be approved at a statewide election and, given the anger from thousands of constituents who flooded the Capitol with calls, letters, and petitions, the two measures are likely headed for the defeat they so richly deserve.
