Damage Prevention Technician Training (DPT100 and DPT200) provides instruction on the fundamentals
of locating. The DPT training is focused on a combination of in-class instruction (in-depth review of techniques used to locate all utility types, safety, locate requests and industry practices), field awareness
review and on-the-job competency assessment.
The Safe Excavation Training (SET) course sets the standard on damage prevention and safe excavation practices around underground infrastructure. It is the knowledge requirement for excavators in Ontario.
Excavators who successfully complete the training will be awarded the Safe Excavation Certificate, demonstrating they know best practices and proper procedures to minimize damage, ensure worker and public safety, and keep projects on time and on budget. They enhance their own and their company’s reputation as professionals dedicated to the health of the industry and the public.
Developed by the ORCGA in consultation with numerous subject matter experts and corporate training experts Flint Learning Solutions, this training is based on the latest research and resources on excavation best practices, legislation and standards. It provides instruction on the fundamentals of compliance, planning and design, notification service, locating and marking, and excavation.
The SET is an interactive 4-hour technical/theory course.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development has invited more than 2,800 candidates with work experience in the skilled trades to apply to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s (OINP) Express Entry Skilled Trades stream.

Niagara Parks has launched a call for proposals process for companies to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new visitor transportation system across its various assets.
The aim of the new system, says Niagara Parks, is to enhance guest experiences while linking Niagara Parks sites and experiences with a focus on the core tourism area of Queen Victoria Park.

Construction employment and overall employment were on different paths in July, reports Statistics Canada. While the overall employment picture was little changed for the month, the construction sector took a significant hit, dropping more positions than any other sector in the monthly Labour Force Survey. According to the most recent edition of the report, the sector has lost 45,000 workers, or almost three per cent of its workers, since June.

In early August, Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development issued notifications of interest to 2,844 potential candidates with work experience in specified skilled trades who may qualify for Ontario’s Express Entry Skilled Trades stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).
Candidates received a notification if they had a comprehensive ranking system (CRS) score of 250-516 and work experience in any of the national occupational classification (NOC) codes included in the call. That list included numerous in-demand construction-related skilled-trades occupations, such as carpenters, electricians, and construction workers.
