The Ontario government and City of Toronto announced on June 4 that they will work together to bring a third electricity transmission line into downtown Toronto to ensure the city has the power it needs to support new homes, economic growth and major infrastructure like transit.
“We are acting now to protect Ontario families, workers and businesses by ensuring our province’s largest city has the power it needs to grow,” said Energy Minister Stephen Lecce. “By planning for and investing in this critical infrastructure, we’re securing the electricity needed to power new communities like the Port Lands and East Harbour in downtown Toronto, as well as supporting major transit expansions like the Ontario Line and securing a reliable and affordable energy supply without relying on other jurisdictions.”

With the federal and provincial governments working to finalize a list of large nation-building infrastructure projects to energize the Canadian economy, improve productivity, and break its dependence on U.S. markets, Canadian business leaders have their own long wish-list, ranging from improving existing ports and transportation networks to building an energy-agnostic utility and digital infrastructure corridor, finds a recent survey by KPMG in Canada.
Nine in 10 business leaders want all levels of government to declare the building of an energy-agnostic utility corridor “a national emergency and quickly align to expedite and streamline the review processes,” the research finds.

Within the Enbridge Damage Prevention department, the team is always trying to come up with creative solutions to reduce gas line damages. One consistent trend we observe is a higher rate of damage from Sewer and Water work. Jason Syragakis came up with a creative challenge for a Toronto-based sewer and water contractor, CG Construction Services Ltd, to complete one full year of ground disturbance with no gas line damages. This was a lofty target given the volume and scope of the projects CG Construction Services was undertaking in 2024.
