TAPPI’s Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability Committee to Meet at Miron Construction

Long considered the heart of the tissue machine, Yankee dryers are an important part of the tissue manufacturing process. It is also the single piece of tissue equipment under the most stress, making safety an integral part of Yankee Dryer operations.

For this and similar reasons, TAPPI formed its Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability Committee (YDSRC) in the late 1970s. The Committee’s purpose – then and now – is to develop standard practices which address problems that cause drying system delays and can compromise safety.

Spring Yankee Dryer Committee Meeting
On Thursday, May 2, and Friday, May 3, Miron Construction in Neenah, WI, US, will host the TAPPI Spring 2019 YDSRC meeting. Located in what is considered the “heart of tissue country,” Miron is a convenient site for those wishing to attend and expand their working knowledge of safe operating and maintenance practices.

In addition to the two-day meeting, Miron is also hosting TAPPI’s Tissue 201: Operations and Runnability Course. Participants in the two-day course will derive a more complete understanding of the tissue process, and leave with the skills necessary to safely achieve and maintain high production levels by reducing downtime and off-quality paper. A faculty of 12 subject matter experts leads the course. Tissue 201 is an intermediate-to-advanced level course designed to help students improve tissue quality and consistency, understand contributors to waste and downtime, learn reliability and maintenance best practices, and diagnose and troubleshoot problems quickly.
