Södra held a ceremony in Mönsterås, Sweden, to mark the start of construction of the company's new kraft lignin plant. The new plant will cover an area of 1,400 m2 and be built on a prepared site at Södra's existing combined facility in Mönsterås.

UPM Specialty Papers will invest over 10 million euros in the modernization of UPM Tervasaari mill in Valkeakoski, Finland. Valmet is to deliver a furnace upgrade, along with a long-term service agreement, to Eren Holding’s Shotton Mill in the UK. The furnace upgrade will be delivered by the end of 2025.

WEPA Group announced plans to install a new tissue paper machine, along with two converting lines, at the company's production site in the town of Bridgend, South Wales, UK. A complete modernization of the palletizing of finished products at the facility is also part of the project.

Valmet is to supply a complete Valmet Advantage DCT 200 tissue line to the Turkish tissue manufacturer Lila Group’s new mill in Erzurum, in the eastern part of Turkey. The TM 5 line will be equipped with stock preparation, a rewinder, and an extensive automation package to achieve high efficiency and low energy consumption in production.

Valmet will deliver an additive feeding system upgrade and a redundant steam reduction station system to Hamburger Containerboard Dunaújvaros in Hungary. Together, the deliveries will support the customer in their long-term plant development targets by improving the power boiler availability and environmental performance, as well as enabling participation in the growing electricity reserve market, respectively.

Sustainability
Following extended technical, commercial and strategic evaluations, UPM plans to discontinue the development of its potential second biomass-to-fuels refinery at the Port of Rotterdam. As a result, UPM plans to halt all engineering work related to the CAPEX investment in Rotterdam and to withdraw from all site-related commitments associated with the Rotterdam investment.
