Pulp & Paper
Siemens Energy has been selected by Arauco, one of the largest global pulp companies, to supply steam turbogenerators and the entire energy distribution system for its first pulp mill in Brazil. The Sucuriú plant is being built in Mato Grosso do Sul State and will have the capacity to produce 3.5 million tons of short fiber per year. The contract, registered in the first quarter of this fiscal year, foresees the delivery of equipment and solutions in the second half of 2027 and has an approximate value of more than 500 million reais.

Valmet has received an order from Papirnica Vevce in Ljubljana, Slovenia, to supply a Valmet IQ Web Inspection System (WIS) to inspect paper web quality.

The Navigator Company has approved an investment of EUR 30 million to retrofit Paper Machine No. 3 (PM3), giving it the operational flexibility to produce low grammage kraft packaging papers, along with its current uncoated woodfree (UWF) paper grades.

Georgia-Pacific plans to permanently close its Cedar Springs Containerboard mill in Georgia. Most positions will be eliminated by August 1, 2025.

Amazon announced that it will deploy advanced automated packing technology across its European network to improve packaging for its customers and reduce waste. Through its largest European investment in sustainable packaging, Amazon will bring custom-box making technology to Europe for the first time, so that more customers receive items in made-to-fit packaging.

On May 14, 2025, the American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) published a blog post urging the New York State Legislature to consider the impacts that two different extended producer responsibility (EPR) bills – the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act and the Affordable Waste Reduction Act – could have on the state’s recycling system and the paper industry’s supply chain. The global environmental non-profit CDP has published the corporate scores for 2024 disclosures. Out of 22,700 companies scored, only eight companies globally received the best Triple A rating across climate, forests and water security. Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, was one of these eight companies and the only forest industry company among these highest scored companies.

Konecranes has appointed Marko Tulokas (b. 1972) as its new President and CEO as of June 1, 2025. He succeeds Konecranes’ current President and CEO Anders Svensson who will leave the company on July 19, 2025, as announced earlier. From the beginning of June until his departure, Anders Svensson will act as an advisor to ensure a smooth transition.
