According to a report this past week by See News Renewables, Vienna, Austria, Nippon Paper Industries announced May 27 the now-completed 5-MW biomass power plant in Kumamoto prefecture, further adding it would reach commercial operations in June.

The output will be sold to Kyushu Electric Power Co. under Japan’s feed-in tariffs for biomass. Woody-biomass plants bigger than 2 MW in the country get a rate of JPY 32 (USD 0.26/EUR 0.24) per kWh.

The wood biomass power generation plant is located at the Yatsushiro Mill and uses as fuel unused woody materials such as timber from forest thinning in the Kyushu region.
