ASCO Board of Directors Holds Spring Meetings in Minneapolis
The Board of Directors of the Association of Optometry Schools and Colleges held its Spring Board Meeting and Annual Meeting in Minneapolis adjacent to Optometry’s Meeting.
Some topics discussed and presented were:
- Fundraising efforts for FY25 and plans for FY26.
- Possibly working with a consultant to define ASCO’s philosophy and policy-setting process around ASCO’s use of AI. (The Board ultimately decided to revisit topic at later date).
- Changing the classification for Low Vision residencies to a Category Title.
- Presentations from representatives from two participants in ASCO’s Corporate Contributor program—Glaukos and Abbvie.
- Approval of the FY26 budget.
- ASCO’s Annual Meeting began with remarks from outgoing President Dr. Fraser Horn as he prepares for his move to Ireland, along with the swearing in of the new Executive Committee.
The new Executive Committee members are : President , Dr. Alicia Feis, President-elect Dr. Keshia Elder Treasurer, Dr. Suresh Viswanathan Secretary, Dr. David Troilo, and Past-president Dr. Mark Colip.
Additionally:
- An update was given on Optometry Gives Me Life, ASCO’s public awareness campaign.
- Dr. Jeannette Pepper, Chair of ASCO’s Diversity and Cultural Competency Committee (DCCC), delivered an impassioned speech on the state of DEI and how it impacts the work of ASCO’s diversity efforts
- The 2025 Special Recognition Award recipients were presented with their awards during the meeting as well as the recipients of ASCO resolutions.
