Labib Named Dean Of Pacific University College of Optometry
Bisant A. Labib OD, FAAO, Diplomat AAO, is the new Dean of the Pacific University College of Optometry, effective July 14.
“I am truly delighted to have Dr. Labib join us as our dean of our College of Optometry,” said Barbara May, Pacific's vice president for academic affairs and provost. “She is an accomplished optometric educator who will bring her expertise and collaborative spirit to Pacific as we continue to build on our successful history and uplift our optometry program for another 80 years. I am truly impressed with her dedication to the profession and am grateful to have her leadership in the coming years.”
Labib is a distinguished optometrist and previously served as associate dean at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry (PCO) at Salus at Drexel University, where she oversaw academic affairs and programs. A full professor, she was also director of the clinical internship program and co-chief of primary care service at PCO’s affiliate clinic, The Eye Institute (TEI).
She completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at PCO, then pursued a residency in primary care, with an emphasis in ocular disease, at TEI. She received her fellowship from the American Academy of Optometry (AAO) in 2015 and later became the 12th diplomate of the Comprehensive Eye Care section of the AAO. She also served as program chair and written exam chair of the section until 2022.
Labib also lectures nationally, runs a regular column in Review of Optometry and has been published and cited extensively for her research.
“I am honored and thrilled to join the Pacific University College of Optometry as its next dean,” Labib said. “This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with an exceptional community of educators, clinicians, and students. I look forward to building on the college’s longstanding legacy in advancing innovative, inclusive, and patient-centered optometric education.”
Labib succeeds Fraser Horn as Dean, following his departure to advance optometry education in Ireland. Beth Kinoshita served as interim dean from July 1 to July 14.
