Invitation from CECS

The Comprehensive Eye Care Section (CECS) of the American Academy of Optometry would like to invite you to consider applying for the Diplomate program. Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry (Dipl AAO) is a distinction achieved by less than 1% of Doctors of Optometry. We are Fellows of the Academy who promote integrity, collegiality, mutual collaboration, and a comprehensive approach to eye care for our patients. We are committed to practicing to the full extent of our training and licensure by incorporating state-of-the-art techniques and patient care philosophies into our practice. By completing the Diplomate Program, you will join a distinguished group of optometric leaders who are committed to lifelong learning and professional development.

Your academic contributions, clinical/research expertise, and leadership in optometric education exemplify the qualities we seek in Diplomates. Becoming a Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry in the Comprehensive Eye Care Section (CECS Dipl AAO) reflects a commitment to providing high-quality optometric education, delivering evidence-based eye care, and moving our profession forward.
The CECS Diplomates will be hosting open office hours at Academy 2025 Boston to answer any questions you might have. Whether you are interested in starting the journey to become a Diplomate or you have already started and are looking for guidance, office hours are a great opportunity to meet current Diplomates and learn more about the process. We also invite you to join us for the CECS Fall Lecture Series: Optometry Bootcamp. These lectures are designed to help optometrists develop and maintain a comprehensive scope of practice and will give you a sampling of the type of information that is included on the CECS diplomate exams. You can learn more about the lectures and register here. All attendees will be eligible to have their application fee for the Comprehensive Eye Care Section’s Diplomate Program waived (must apply by 12/31/2025).

For more information, visit our Section webpage, email us with any questions, and visit us during Office Hours in Boston! We thank you for your service to our profession and look forward to meeting you!
