Midwestern University Eye Institute Offers New Adjustable Lens Implantation During Cataract Surgery

The Arizona College of Optometry (AZCOPT) continues to shine as a leader in eyecare. At the Midwestern University Eye Institute on the Glendale, AZ, campus, clinical faculty are now offering some of the newest technology in cataract surgery: Light Adjustable Lenses (LAL) implanted at the time of the cataract surgery. This cutting-edge procedure is performed by Robert Fintelmann, MD, FACS, Associate Professor, Arizona College of Optometry.

After cataract surgery, the LAL is customized by adjusting the lens until it meets the optical and lifestyle requirements of each patient. This optimization is accomplished through non-invasive, office-based light treatments through a light delivery device and is performed by AZCOPT faculty. Students assist faculty with post-operative care and discuss patients’ refractive needs.
