ASCO Says Goodbye to Carol Brubaker, Long-time ASCO Staff Member

Please join ASCO’s Board and staff in bidding farewell to Carol Brubaker, ASCO’s Manager of Professional Affairs. Carol’s last day with ASCO was January 31.

Carol rejoined the ASCO staff in 2010 in a part-time capacity, working from her home in Virginia Beach. She first joined ASCO, at the Rockville, MD office, in 1998; she left in 2002 after the birth of her second child. Over the years, her responsibilities included the management of a variety of key programmatic committees and their subcommittees, as well as special interest groups (SIGs), and task forces -- most recently the Academic Affairs Committee, Clinical Affairs Committee, International Optometric Education Committee, and the International Optometric Educators SIG.

“I’ve worked for other educational non-profits, associations, and businesses, but I’ve never regretted pivoting to a higher education association that serves as important a health care profession as optometry,” says Ms. Brubaker. “Learning about the field and getting to work with so many incredible volunteers has been a highlight of my career. The immense time and effort our volunteers put into ensuring the success of ASCO programs and efforts is extraordinary given they’re equally as dedicated to advancing excellence in optometric education at their own institutions. I’m grateful to my coworkers for their authentic comradery over the years and especially during and after the pandemic.”

“Carol will be very missed and I know I speak for all staff, the Board of Directors, and our volunteers who have had the pleasure to work with her,” says Dawn Mancuso, MAM, CAE, FASAE, ASCO’s Executive Vice President/CEO. “Carol has worked with many, many ASCO volunteers over the years, and has done so with professionalism and diligence. We will miss her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
