Cochran Inducted into Hall of Fame

Dr. Billy Cochran, President Emeritus at Southern College of Optometry, was recently inducted into the 2022 Hall of Fame by TICUA, the Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities Association.

TICUA and its member institutions selected 24 alumni from the state’s independent colleges and universities. In addition to Dr. Cochran, this year’s inductees included Nobel laureates and Pulitzer Prize winners.

A third-generation optometrist, Dr. Cochran served as SCO’s president from 1984 through his retirement in 2007. His accomplishments include strengthening the college’s academic and clinical program outcomes, constructing The Eye Center, and leading a fundraising effort that continues to grow and provide scholarships to today’s students.

Dr. Lewis Reich, SCO’s current president, was joined by Dr. Chris Wroten, Chair of SCO’s Board of Trustees in presenting the TICUA medallion and induction award to Dr. Cochran.
