ASCO Board of Directors Met Virtually in November

The ASCO Board of Directors convened in November for a virtual meeting (as opposed to meeting in person because of remaining concerns regarding COVID-19).

A sampling of topics discussed and actions taken during the Board Meeting were:

  • The Board heard a progress report from NBEO staff regarding revisions to the Board Exam Part III.
  • The group discussed on-going work for a new Strategic Plan for FY23-27.
  • The Board approved new volunteer job descriptions and volunteer appointments.
  • The latest NAEVR/AEVR initiatives were presented.
  • An update on Optometry Gives Me Life activities, including OGML funding survey results, was presented. The campaign introduced two new Doctors of Optometry and started placing paid advertising on TikTok.
  • The Board approved the IPECP Committee’s recommended IPECP Core Competencies for Optometric Education.

Additional items covered were:

  • FY21 audit report was received and approved
  • Updates on ASCO’s Fundraising Plan and results to date.
  • The consideration and approval of a proposed Endorsement Disclaimer.

Corporate Contributors Optomed and Visus Therapeutics also presented updates to the Board. This is a highlight of each Board Meeting and is a great way for sponsors to share news, products and services to the Board, as well as for the Board to show their appreciation to sponsors.

Future Meeting Plans

Plans are underway for three Board of Directors meetings in 2022.

ASCO’s Board will be meeting in-person in March in New Orleans conjunction with SECO. The plan is for all future Board meetings to be in person in conjunction with Optometry’s Meeting and the Academy’s Annual Meeting.
