Registration Now Open for International Sports Vision Association’s 6th Annual Conference

Pre-conference Workshops Offer Opportunities for Hands-on Training

Registration is now open for Elevating Athletic Performance, the 6th Annual International Sports Vision Association (ISVA) conference, February 10-12, 2022 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista South in Kissimmee, Florida.

The ISVA annual conference is a leading event for eyecare professionals, athletic trainers, coaches and others interested in helping athletes reach their maximum potential. The 2022 conference is scheduled to offer up to 17 COPE-approved CE credits and includes a diverse offering of pre-conference lecture style and hands-on workshops along with general conference educational sessions.

“The last year-and-a-half has taught us a whole new way of presenting information via online learning, but when it comes to sports vision there is nothing like hands-on participation,” says ISVA president Charles Shidlofsky, OD, FCOVD. “The ISVA 2022 conference offers attendees an opportunity to learn and get practical experience with various evaluation and training techniques under the guidance of experienced sports vision professionals.”

The 2022 conference kicks off on Thursday, February 10, with two separate day-long, continuing education (COPE approval pending) Pre-Conference Workshops:

  • “Building a sports vision specialty provides optometrists with a great opportunity to better serve the needs of patients, generate increased revenue through ophthalmic and contact lens sales, and draw in new clients who are highly motivated to achieve peak athletic performance,” says Jarrod Davies OD, FCOVD, ISVA VP, Education. “The Establishing a Sports Vision Specialty Workshop will introduce emerging sports vision providers to visual performance evaluation and performance vision training protocols, techniques, equipment and materials necessary to establish and enhance a sports vision practice.” In order to ensure that each attendee has an opportunity to get the most out of this Workshop program, registration will be limited to the first 50 registrants.

  • New this year, the Advanced Sports Specific Workshop is designed for more experienced Sports Vision professionals who work with athletes at all levels. “The purpose of these hands-on instructional sessions is to provide attendees with an understanding of how vision training applies to each sport, offer examples of sports-specific training, and teach them how to develop their own protocol for other sports,” explains Dr. Davies. Attendees will cycle through each of four different workshops throughout the day.” In order to ensure that each attendee has an opportunity to get the most out of this Workshop program, registration will be limited to the first 80 registrants (no more than 20 attendees within each individual workshop).

The ISVA General Conference (February 11-12) will provide a variety of continuing education presentations (COPE approval pending) from some of the leading authorities in sports vision assessment and training and research, including Graham Erickson, OD, FAAO, FCOVD, Nicklaus Fogt, OD, PhD, Lawrence D Lampert OD, FCOVD, and Joan Vickers, PhD. The full agenda and a listing of all speakers can be seen on the ISVA website at https://www.sportsvision.pro/professionals/2022-annual-conference/.

The conference will also feature several “Talk & Trial” sessions, affording attendees an opportunity to spend dedicated time with exhibitors to learn about and gain first-hand experience with a vast array of products, programs, and services that can help build and enhance a sports vision practice.

“Sports Vision/Performance Training continues to become more and more important in training individuals who participate in traditional on-the field sports, e-sports and non-sports related professions, such as military, police, firefighters (and other first responders) and pilots, to name a few,” notes Dr. Shidlofsky.  “Whether you are interested in establishing a sports vision practice or already conducting specific vision skill testing and actively engaged in working with athletes and/or teams, we are confident you will find the conference stimulating and rewarding.”
