SCO Retires Construction Debt

Southern College of Optometry officially became a debt-free institution in May 2021. After recent robust market gains saw healthy returns on the college’s investments, SCO’s Board of Trustees opted to pay off the outstanding balance from the construction of The Eye Center at SCO.

First constructed in 2002, The Eye Center at SCO has served as the college’s primary Clinical Programs training facility for students and for providing patient care.

“Years of alumni gifts and financial support enabled us to set aside the funds through the years to build the strong endowment needed to retire this outstanding debt three years early,” said Dr. Lewis Reich, SCO President. “We’re very appreciative of our alumni and friends whose support has strengthened the college’s financial position, especially as the country emerges from the pandemic.”
