Luxottica Secures Industry Pricing of Personal Protective Equipment to Optometric Institutions
Luxottica continues to support doctors and the field of optometry throughout COVID-19 by strengthening partnerships to find solutions to address industry changes and enhance safety measures.
Luxottica, as an industry leader, leaned into its vendor relationship and exam instrument expertise to negotiate lower prices for purchases of personal protective equipment. Luxottica reports that this supply chain PPE pricing is being extended to all optometry schools and colleges to protect students and patients with needed supplies when clinics and classes resume.
“We were happy to negotiate these prices and initiate the conversation to extend this pricing to schools,” said Carl Spear, OD, MBA, FAAO. “As healthcare providers on the frontlines, optometrists will continue to play a critical role in their communities and need appropriate protection.” Dr. Spear serves as Senior Vice President of Luxottica Eye Care.
Luxottica began distributing PPE supplies to Luxottica doctors, Luxottica wholesale customers, Luxottica employees and industry partners in April. In addition, Luxottica donated 100,000 masks total to hospitals in New York, Cincinnati and Atlanta.
Eyefficient, Luxottica’s breath shield supplier, has agreed to extend Luxottica negotiated pricing on protective shields for slit lamps, manual phoropter, pupilometer and BIO breath shields.
“Eyefficient has created some very unique breath shields, and we’re very pleased with the quality of their product and service,” explained Tom Kremer, a Luxottica senior eye care director who oversaw the supply chain process. “In an environment where our needs have been significant and raw materials have been challenging to source, Eyefficient has done a great job in meeting our needs.”
Schools should contact Mr. Mark Newkirk via email at markn@eyefficient.com, who will extend Luxottica pricing, for more information and to arrange for purchase.
Luxottica thanks all eye doctors who have continued to care for essential needs patients during this time. They applaud the care they have provided for their communities and their swift response and adoption of protocol recommended by the CDC and AOA to keep themselves, their staff and patients safe.
