  • Current Electronic Health Record Status and Issues
    • Most schools are staying with current EHR
  • Current ERx Status and Issues
    • No significant issues reported
  • Current Image Management System Status and Issues
    • Merge will be discontinued soon
    • Forum seems to be the preferred vendor at most schools, and most report being happy with it
  • Simulation in the Realm of Optometric Education
    • In conjunction with the Clinical Optometric Methods and Procedures SIG, those who use VR Magic simulators seem to have mixed feelings about them
    • Those who love them seem to report no real issues
    • Those who don’t love the simulators seem to have breakage issues
    • All seem to report issues with the learning modules – could be more robust
  • ExamSoft/Electronic Test Administration
    • Most are happy with ExamSoft
    • Questions about how best to provide student feedback on tests/quizzes without releasing the actual test
    • Strategies include:
      • Descriptively categorize questions and release the categories to students
      • Descriptively title questions and release the question titles to students
      • Place learning outcomes associated with the question in the rational portion of each question, and release the rationales to students
      • From all these, the student should be clearly guided to the topic area they need to work on
  • LMS System Status and Issues
    • No significant issues reported
    • Push for institutions to provide training to effectively utilize LMS systems to maximize the learning potential of the system and our students
  • Potential Educational Technology SIG Projects for the Year
    • Invite ExamSoft to speak of new product line
    • Invite Anatomage to speak of anatomy simulation
    • Invite VR Magic to demonstrate new virtual slit lamp
