MCPHS Alumna Named Oregon's Young Optometrist of the Year

MCPHS School of Optometry alumna Emilee Nehring, OD, was named Young Optometrist of the Year for 2019 by the Oregon Optometric Association (OOPA) at their annual meeting in July. The title of Young OD of the Year is awarded to a doctor of optometry who has been practicing for 10 years or less and has significantly participated in organized optometry through OOPA.
Dr. Nehring served on the OOPA Membership Committee and the OOPA Advocacy Committee and was installed as a member of the OOPA Board. She is also a board member of the Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, an organization that works to provide vision care to global communities. As an optometry student intern, Dr. Nehring traveled to Nicaragua and Mexico and served as an attending doctor on a trip to Bolivia.
Dr. Emilee Nehring graduated from MCPHS's Doctor of Optometry program in 2017. Upon earning her doctor of optometry degree, she returned to Oregon, where she now practices all aspects of optometry with an emphasis on pediatric vision at the Woodburn Vision Source, the practice her father started 33 years ago.
Outside of her work as an optometrist, Dr. Nehring has hiked from Cusco to Machu Picchu in Peru and ice-climbed in Montana. She also enjoys any outdoor activity with her dog, Koda.
