Southern College of Optometry Professor Glen Steele, OD, has seen a number of honors fresh off his recent induction into the National Optometry Hall of Fame.

Dr. Steele was honored for his role in founding the Conference on Clinical Vision Care during the organization’s 25th annual meeting in July.

In recognition of his Hall of Fame induction, the Memphis Redbirds minor league baseball team invited Dr. Steele to throw out the opening pitch at its August 2 game. The team’s coordinator who handed Dr. Steele his baseball and assisted him with the pitch instantly recognized Dr. Steele as her former childhood optometrist.

On hand to watch the pitch was SCO’s recruiting team and a group of prospective students.

Later in August, Dr. Steele and SCO President Lewis Reich, OD, PhD, were both nominated for the Memphis Business Journal’s annual Healthcare Heroes Award in recognition of each of their contributions to optometry.
