Reflections

These are extraordinary times with extraordinary challenges. We fear for our safety and the safety of those we love, for the stability of our country and our world, and for what we will ultimately see when we push through to the other side of this crisis, not just as professionals, but also as human beings engaged in the shared project of civilization.
Article Spotlight

I was having a conversation with someone the other day, and he told me he felt stuck.  Those weren’t his words – but that’s what he was saying.

Ask the Expert
Q: My organization operates in a field severely impacted by COVID-19. Our leadership and key stakeholders have been putting together valuable content for our members and we’re looking for the most effective ways to present the recordings. We’re unsure whether we need to get releases or to allow the speakers to use the recordings for their own businesses.

John Sheffield, Business Development Manager, Lake Ontario Event & Conference Center

Tell us about the Lake Ontario Event & Conference Center:  The family I work for has 2 hotels, 2 restaurants, 2 wedding venues, the conference center, and a health club all tied together. Pre COVID-19, my job was to get association groups from around NYS to visit our facilities, tour our venues, and break bread together. Post-COVID, with fewer hours, I’ve taken on the social media campaigns for all of the venues.  I still reach out to potential conference clients but for now my focus is more on empathy and less on business.

NYSAE Virtual Engagement Lounge

NYSAE has been producing Virtual Engagement Lounges, dubbed #powerchats, for the past 8 weeks. The topics of these discussions have centered around how organizations are pivoting to the evolving COVID-19 situation. Attendees are sharing their experiences and decisions related to conferences, special events, virtual programming, sponsorships and more. If you want to revisit the conversation, or learn how your colleagues are re-imagining their programming, recorded sessions are available now. Each session contains feedback, insights and stories from your peers.
